USB PD, PPS and EPR explained
USB Power Delivery is the negotiation system. PPS is a more adjustable charging mode used by some phones. EPR extends USB PD to higher power levels.
USB Power Delivery (PD)
USB PD lets a compatible charger and device negotiate voltage and current profiles over USB-C. It is the baseline standard behind most modern higher-power USB-C charging.
PPS
Programmable Power Supply lets a compatible device request more finely adjustable voltage and current. Some phones rely on PPS to achieve their advertised fastest wired charging behavior. A charger can have plenty of watts but still miss that fastest mode if PPS support is absent.
EPR
Extended Power Range is part of newer USB PD operation and allows power above the older 100W ceiling. USB-IF describes fixed voltage levels that enable 140W, 180W and 240W classes. Compatible charger, cable and device support is required end-to-end.
